A grizzly bear near Knight Inlet Lodge on the coast of British Columbia had a difficult time catching dinner while being surrounded by hundreds of pink salmon. The lodge, which is home to one of the largest populations of grizzly bears in the province, has seen their fair share of grizzly habits, so when this bear dove for the salmon they were shocked.
Grizzly’s usually prefer to keep their head above water when catching fish, so it’s pretty unusual for one to go completely under. In fact, they had seen only one other grizzly dive for salmon before this year, which was back in 2015.
This year, the lodge has seen four or five other young bears use the diving technique to catch fish.
“This is some of the best video we’ve seen of our diving bears at work,” Knight Inlet Lodge said on Facebook.
