This Boiling River Is So Hot That Nothing Can Survive It

With a hottest recorded temperature of just over 210 degrees Fahrenheit, the Shanaiti Bhishma, or the boiling river of the Amazon, isn’t quite at the boiling point of water, but it can kill anything that ventures into its depths.

While the tales that Andrés Ruzo heard from his grandfather about a mythical city of gold in the heart of the Peruvian jungle were more myth than anything, the detail of a boiling river turned out to be very true. The river itself is a place of great significance to local shamans and sorcerers, who made use of the boiling waters and believed a river spirit caused them to boil.

This isn’t the river you’d go to catch fish, but it could certainly be used to cook anything you manage to hook.
