Olivia Newton-John’s former boyfriend, Patrick McDermott, has been found alive and well after disappearing in 2005. McDermott, who disappeared from the fishing boat Freedom out of San Pedro, California, 11 years ago, was found living in a remote Mexican fishing village, according to Woman’s Day in an exclusive story.

A former cameraman who filed for bankruptcy shortly before faking his disappearance – on June 30, 2005 – owed over $30,000 in debt. Believed to be working as a deckhand and living with a German girlfriend after starting his new life, McDermott also left behind a son he shared with ex-wife Yvette Nipar, named Chance, reports Wetpaint.
The big reveal that McDermott was indeed alive and didn’t drown at sea came as a big surprise – but not to everyone. Private investigator Phillip Klein has believed that McDermott has been hiding out this whole time:
John Nazarian, the first detective on the case to investigate the disappearance, told Women’s Day, “It’s rumored he was with a German national. I spoke to people there [in Mexico]. The girl he was traveling with was described as having a German accent. To come up with the conclusion that he fell off the boat, and allegedly no one saw him fall off the boat, is the most preposterous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”
I’m all for getting away from it all, and while living in a fishing village in Mexico sounds like a blast, making your family think you’re dead is a few steps too far into crazy town – not to mention this guy essentially gave the global Heisman to Sandy…THE Sandy!
Whatever his reasons for making himself vanish, I hope the fish were huge and multiplying.
