Man Gets Down and Dirty To Save Eagle Trapped In Mud

When nature photographer Krzysztof Chomicz spotted a white-tailed eagle trapped in thick coastal mud along the Polish shore, he knew he had to do something. He enlisted the help of local firefighters, and with a rope tied to him, he crawled through the mud until he reached the trapped bird. Even though the eagle attacked him, Chomicz didn’t let that stop him from dragging the bird to safety.

Once saved, the bird (they named him Icarus) was cleaned off and cared for by wildlife conservationists before being transferred to a refuge in Szczecin.
