You might be surprised to find an orca intentionally beaching itself, but sometimes hungry times call for desperate measures.

Since whales aren’t typically known for hanging out on land, seals aren’t typically on the lookout for them. Orcas take advantage of this by beaching themselves in an attempt to get an easy meal.

Surprisingly, it actually works. Seals are easier prey when they’re ambushed, especially since they’re slower on land. After having their fill, the orcas wait for the tide to rise so they can return to the sea.
