It didn’t take long after catching a rabbit for this fox to have its dinner seriously ruined.

Photographer Kevin Ebi was out at San Juan Island National Historic Park when he caught the incredible moment a bald eagle snatched the rabbit a fox had caught out of its mouth. But it turns out that the fox wasn’t ready to let its dinner go.

“Here is something you don’t see every day: a bald eagle and a young fox fighting over a rabbit — more than 20 feet in the air!,” Ebi wrote.

He was photographing several fox kits when he noticed one (the one that the eagle was going to steal the rabbit from) had caught a rabbit.

“Then behind me, I heard the cry of a bald eagle,” he wrote. “I turned around and saw it approaching fast. I knew it wanted the rabbit. I intently trained my camera on the fox bracing for a split second of action.”

Despite putting up a fight, the eagle manages to take the rabbit from the fox. Luckily for the fox, it’ll manage to hunt rabbit another day since it was able to escape unharmed.
