Florida Man Buys 100 Generators For Hurricane Dorian Victims In The Bahamas

Anonymous good samaritan doing anything he can to help

A Jacksonville man is making headlines after he was spotted buying 100 generators at a Costco for people in the Bahamas after they were torn through by Hurrican Dorian.

He wished to remain anonymous, but his generosity is doing everything except for going unnoticed.

Fellow shopper Alec Sprague spotted the man in Costco and took to Facebook to thank the man for his kindness.

“Was just in Cotsco off Collins getting a generator (at $450 each) and this guy right here is purchasing over 100 generators and food to send to the Bahamas!” Sprague wrote. “All I could do was shake his hand and thank him! There still are good people in the world!”

The man, who’s reportedly a farmer, has a friend and boat captain from the Bahamas, named Errol Thurston, who is working to get the supplies to the islands.

He spent almost $70,000 in total to help.

“One hundred generators, 120 extension cords, enough chainsaws to start a whole tree service company, spare parts, files, bars and chains,” he said. “I think we had 4,000 pounds of rice. I think we had a pallet of beans, a pallet of peas, a pallet of trail mix, a pallet of coffee and then a lot of baby diapers and that type of thing.”

Starting to rebuild

Some of the supplies had already made it there on Friday and the others were expected to be there within four days.

“It’s important that we help each other out,” the good samaritan said. “It’s better than just sitting there.”

Hurricane Dorian may have done everything it could to destroy the Bahamas, but this good samaritan is doing everything he can to offer relief to locals.

“It’s hard when a big event like this hits to not get pretty emotional about it right away,” he continued. “But it’s the long term that’s really going to count.”

He has good friends who live in the Abaco Islands, who he met during various fishing trips over the last 14 years.

“You knew that people staying there were just suffering greatly. I mean, they lost their homes. Eighty to 90% of people, I think, in that area of Marsh Harbor are homeless. A lot of them are being evacuated right now to Nassau.”
