The Great Trail: Canada Completes World’s Longest Continuous Trail, Connecting It from Coast to Coast

What exactly does it take to build the longest continuous trail in the world in the second largest country on earth? A lot of time and a lot of miles — 25 years and 15,000 miles to be exact.

The Great Trail stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Arctic Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean across 13 provinces and territories. That means everyone in Canada now has the opportunity to walk, hike, bike, or ride a horse from one side of the country to the other. Around a quarter of the trail follows waterways, so there’s also plenty of opportunitiesĀ for kayakers and canoers to do what they love.

The trail is made upĀ of both new and existing trails that were put together in order to make the expansive network possible.

The trail is also completely free to explore. That means there’s no reason to not explore it if you’re ever in Canada.
