Hunter Takes Takes Aim And Fires At A 10-Pointer; Hits Something Else Entirely

Let this be a tale of caution for letting someone borrow your rifle when you aren’t around.

John Gonzalez was out hunting when he came upon a nice 10-pointer. He watches the buck for a bit through his scope before finally taking his shot — it’s nowhere close! He does, however, manage to hit a rabbit that was barely visible in the background and sends it flying in the air.

Fortunately, the buck didn’t seem especially bothered by the shot, so Gonzalez fires again. He also misses again.

We’ll let Gonzalez explain in his own words what exactly happened that day:

To make a long story short, my son dropped my rifle one week before this hunt and did not tell me it was dropped, after making two repetitive shots with custom loads, I knew it was not me. 15 minutes later, buck came back out and I had a chance to get my other gun from my truck and harvest him, however I did not film the fatal shot, but I have pictures. Please notice innocent bystander (rabbit) on the first shot. I was shooting a 7mm Magnum.

At least he managed to eventually shoot the buck once he realised his sight was the issue and got another gun.
