Image: voidlive.com

The Florida shark attacks in 2016 keep racking up, this time the victim was 9-year-old, Austin Moore, while swimming at New Smyrna Beach. Austin suffered a pretty nasty couple of bites to his right leg, which tore through two tendons and caused nerve damage. The injury required surgery and that he stay off of it for six weeks, but he will recover.

The attack happened while Austin was attending a family reunion with 24 members of his family. Family members say he was in shock immediately following the bite, and kept asking, “Did this really happen? Did I really just get bit?”

He definitely did.

Austin’s father quickly pulled him from the water when he realized what happened and took him to family members (some of his family members are nurses) for quick treatment.

A lover of sharks, Austin isn’t going to let this brush with the toothy predator affect his feelings about the animal or getting back in the water.

When asked if he’d go back in the water, he responded: “Well I have to get my stitches out first, but well why wouldn’t I?”

“I’ll go back out surfing as soon as possible,” he said. “I love sharks and still want to know more about them.”

Hopefully this incident is this fearless kids close call where sharks are concerned.
