VIDEO: Engineer Grows Ice Pyramids in the Desert to Store Water

An engineer figured out a way to build artifical glaciers in an effort to provide better access to water in the worlds highest desert in the Himalayas.

Sonam Wangchuk came up with this method so the villagers in this region would have a source of water up through late spring in May and June. These are the periods when people are most often dying from dehydration because natural glaciers are already gone.

Because of his work, Sonam recieved a grant from Rolex that will allow him to build 20 more glaciers in the arid mountain area. Villages in this region will now have a much easier time getting the water they need as are able to cultivate an oasis in what used to be barren land.
