DNR Pulls 70,000 Pounds of Carp from the Illinois River

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources had a huge shock while fighting a potential black carp upstream range expansion in the Illinois River. It turns out they didn’t see a single black carp in their efforts to take them out, but the IDNR reports that they did end up removing 70,239 pounds of Asian carp. While this number is a huge success for getting rid of such a massive number of these incredibly invasive fish, it’s also concerning that they’re getting closer to the Great Lakes.

Here’s to hoping this extraction was just the first of many successful endeavors to rid our waters of this destructive species.
