FWC Will Approve a 78-Day Red Snapper Season

It looks like the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation is going through with a 78-day red snapper season planned for state waters that’s the same as the plan for last year’s season.

A draft rule was recently approved at a meeting the commission held in February which opens the recreational season continuously, beginning the Saturday before Memorial Day through the Sunday following July 4. The season would also open up on Saturdays and Sundays in May and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in September and October, including Labor Day.

Only recreational waters within 9 nautical miles of the shoreline apply to this 78-day season. Anything farther out for any for-hire vessels or anglers who want to fish farther out hasn’t been announced.
