Wildlife Officer Responds to an Incident with a Moose He’d Hoped He’d Never See Again

When wildlife officer Alex Head responded to a call about a cow moose that had fallen through a window well and into a basement bedroom, he couldn’t believe it.

His disbelief didn’t come from thinking the situation was impossible, he had actually already been through an identical scenario, except it involved a cow elk. He thought the first time was a once in a lifetime event and would never happen again. He was wrong.

“It’s not something we deal with a lot, but we know how to deal with the situation,” Hailey Police officer Michael Shelamer said.

The Hailey Police Department contacted the Idaho Fish and Game after receiving a call about the situation.

Efforts to coax the moose out were all in vain because the animal kept charging. The moose was eventually shot with a tranquilizer, where it was easily removed from the bizarre situation.

“With all hands on deck, the sleeping giant was carried up the stairs and out the front door,” the Idaho Fish and Game said. “It woke up in the snow-covered street groggy and confused, but free.”
