As far as reasons for missing practice go, “I shot myself in the finger, coach,” is either the best or the worst excuse we’ve heard. But that’s exactly what happened to Alabama defensive lineman Dakota Ball after a hunting accident.

Details on exactly when the accident occurred haven’t been released and no one knows when Ball will return to the field.

Since Alabama has a College Football Playoff semifinal game coming up on New Year’s Eve at the Peach Bowl. Let’s hope he has a speedy recovery. That all depends on the severity of the injury, however, and it’s still unknown which finger he shot or how bad it is.
