Giant Stingray Caught From Pier Goes Viral, Barb Removal Causes Controversy

These anglers snag an impressive giant stingray as they are prepping for shark fishing by catching some stingray for bait from Oak Island pier. While not every stingray they catch ends up being used for bait, the ones they release have their barb removed first, as a safety measure.

The angler does get some flak for removing the stingrays barb from an onlooker, who compares it to cutting off a leg. In reality, it’d be more like clipping someones toenails, since the barb grows back and is only removed as a safety precaution for people swimming near the pier.
